Much like Natalie pointed out in our last week’s DIY Halloween post, it makes absolutely no sense to spend $50+ on a awfully made, store-bought costume. Let’s be real–you are highly unlikely to wear for more than a few intoxicated hours at your respective Hallow’s Eve bash and you’ll be crying in your cheap polyester when you realize all the things you could have done with that $75 spent at iParty.
Here’s some of my picks for Halloween 2013 from MissKL:
Clockwise: MKL Accessories — The English Garden Sunglasses in Gold, Kangol — The Lite Felt Diva Hat, Fashionology — Necklace Dreamcatcher in Silver, Jeffrey Campbell — The Bigger Shoe In Black, Glamorous — The Mania Maxi Dress
Channel Stevie Nicks by letting out your inner gypsy. Pair a long chiffon dress with some heeled lace-up boots and Stevie’s signature hat, and play around by layering long pendant necklaces. If you really want to take it to the next level of vagabond chic, add a pair of round Lennon-style glasses. Not only do all of these items work together to emulate the cover of Bella Donna, but you’re sure to have all these pieces carry into future seasons.
Clockwise: RVCA – The Chaac Maxi Dress in Blood Orange, House of Harlow 1960 – The Goddess Trinity Collar Necklace in Gold and Turquoise, Jeffrey Campbell – The Lita Shoe in Taupe, MKL Accessories — The Native Drums Necklace, UNIF – The Desert Poncho in Brown Multi
Pocahontas was the first film I saw as a child ever, so the typically-ubiquitous Native American princess costume has always been an ensemble I could never bring myself to truly hate on. Besides, an excuse to grab this stunning statement necklace from MKL Accessories and wear it forabsolutelyfreakingever? Yup.
David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust
Clockwise: Jeffrey Campbell – The Scully Platform in All White, 8 Other Reasons – The Forever and Ever Cuffs in Gold, MKL Collection – The Bright Lights Crop Tee in Black, Glamorous – The Soiree Pant in Denim Blue, UNIF – The Gammaray Moto Jacket, Glamorous – The Need You Tank in Red
Before Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta’s Lady Gaga, there was David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust. Go avant garde by taking on UNIF’s Gammaray pieces and other iridescent fabrics that seem to have been made for Bowie’s androgynous alter ego. Last but not least, don’t forget Ziggy’s iconic red/blue lightning bolt.
Lana Del Rey
Clockwise: MKL Collective – The Lasercut Liberty Tee in Red, Harlett – The Purple Flower Power Crown, UNIF – The Outsider Jacket, Jeffrey Campbell – The Everwell Bootie in Black and Grey Snake, Sugarpill Cosmetics - The Dreamy False Eyelashes, Glamorous – The Shindig Short in Noir
Personally, I (still) love Lana Del Rey. Summertime Sadness was a sleeper Top 40 hit this summer, so why not channel Lana’s patriotic redneck chic this halloween? Whether topping off this ensemble with Lana’s signature flower crown or a Native American chief headdress a la her “Ride” music vid, don’t forget those full falsies to give your eyes that iconic pop much like Ms. Rey.
Clockwise: One Teaspoon – The Babylon Blazer, Obey – The Nottingham Cable Sleeve Sweater in Bone Brown, Glamorous – The Lady Skirt in Gray Marle, Foot Traffic – The Valencia Tight in Black, Jeffrey Campbell – The Solitaire Shoe in Black Suede and Black Patent.
Last but absolutely not least, celebrate how much you loved that Netflix brought back everyone’s favorite show by channeling Lucille Bluth this year. Yes, I was one of those who had a launch party with friends only so we could all crowd around my laptop when the fourth season premiered on Netflix last May. This costume isn’t difficult– break out your best business wear/pump combo and add a martini glass & Lucille’s signature winking eye.
