This chick basically does it all. Jackie Earhart, creator of the brand Harlett, gives us the scoop on what her brand is all about, how social media affects her design process, and what makes her do a personal happy dance on the inside. Oh yeah, and just a side note, she’s also the babe behind half of Karmaloop’s product photos.

Q & A:

Who is the Harlett Girl?

Someone who is a little biker, a little rock and roll, and a little vicious. So, she’s a badass with a little sparkle.

Where does your inspiration come from?

I think one of my favorite things to do is people watch. I am always aware of my surroundings. I like to see what new trends people are wearing and for that I check out sites like Etsy and Pinterest and cruise around there for inspiration.

You work as a photographer for Karmaloop, plus manage Harlett -  if you could have any OTHER job in the world, what would it be?

I really love my job. I have been a full-time photographer for Karmaloop for six years now and it has been amazing. I have met so many beautiful people and have great co-workers that are basically family, so I really am working my dream job. On top of that, I have Harlett.  I feel like if I’m not being productive 7 days a week, I’m a lazy piece of shit. My husband probably finds this super annoying, but I have to keep busy constantly. And that is how Harlett started. Probably on a three day weekend where I needed to do something other than photographing.

Who are your favorite designers?

You know what, I don’t follow designers very often. I mean, I love to flip through fashion magazines and see what is going on in the fashion world as well as what could be changed around to fit the lifestyles and budgets of younger girls.

Have you received customer feedback?

I think the best avenue for feedback from customers is social networking. People have no filters over the internet, which I actually appreciate. So I post pics of what I am working on and if I’m lucky, I get to put them on some of the celebrity models that come through Karmaloop and get an even bigger audience. And the feedback has been great!

Do you ever see people out in the real world wearing Harlett? If so, does it make you want to approach them, or perhaps squeal with delight?

I love to search Harlett hashtags and see what comes up! I def have seen people rocking Harlett gear on Instagram and I def do a happy dance on the inside! I don’t think I have actually run into someone in person yet. Soon hopefully!

harlettressMusical influences? Favorite song of the week?

I don’t have a favorite song, that is way too hard! I love so many different things, but Elvis does hold a special place in my heart these days.

Because I know you design for a younger demographic, I wanted to ask you what high-school was like for you?

High school was actually a nightmare for me…. sad but true. I am soooo happy that I didn’t grow up in the social network era for high school. Also we had to wear uniforms in high school, lame. I think some of my stuff is high school appropriate, BUUUT, maybe more weekend appropriate. HAHA

After all the work you do, what are you the most proud of?

I am the most proud of the work ethic of my husband and myself. We are always working off of each other to develop our brand Holliday (a men’s leather accessories line) and of course, Harlett. We always keep busy with our hobbies, photography and his motorcycle building and Jiu Jitsu Trianing…we like to keep busy and work hard! We try to be involved in each others’  hobbies/passions so that we can spend the most time together. He is my best friend and I hate being away from him!
