Want to end 2012 with a bang? ¬†You can easily spice up your New Year’s Eve with this boozy take on the Americana cocktail. This recipe is the method of choice at local whiskey bar Saloon, so we have it on pretty good authority that the ingredients balance well. And thanks to my bartender boyfriend, I’m able to walk you through all the steps. Get your pen and paper ready! This cocktail is sure to knock more than a few friends on their asses.

Bottle of Champagne (duh!)

Jerry Thomas bitters

Brown Sugar

Directions: Put 1 teaspoon of brown sugar at the bottom of your glass. Then add two dashes of Jerry Thomas bitters and 1/2 ounce of whiskey. I only had rye on me, but use bourbon if you can get it! Then fill your glass to the brim with chilled champagne. Personally, I used extra dry Prosecco since that’s what I happened to have in my fridge but I’m guessing for NYE you’ll have the real stuff! Last step is a simple orange garnish using a peeler.

And that’s it! No stirring needed. And for info on how to decorate your champagne flutes like ours, see our other NYE themed DIY post!

Happy Boozing!
