Check out these striking images by fashion photographer Norman Parkinson. I can’t help but think that this first image is an inspiration for Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Norman Parkinson was best known for his ability to capture style and finesse in a way that no other had done in his time. Born in the U.K in 1913, Parkinson set up his studio when he was just 21 years old. He worked for the British publication of Harper’s Bazaar, and contributed to publications such as Vogue and Town and Country.
Parkinson introduced a style of photography that abandoned the stiff formality of his predecessors. He injected casual elegance and humor into his images, and was able to accurately portray the spirit of the time. He was also known for his creative use of outdoor locations. His photographs of celebrities, artists, actors and the British Royal Family are known throughout the world and have become icons of twentieth century style.
