This weekend I got the chance to visit Mario Testino‘s first U.S exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. I’m sure most of you fashionistas are already familiar with the work of fashion photographer Mario Testino, but if you’re not here’s what all the hype is about. The retrospective entitled “In Your Face” is just that — the chance to walk into what feels like a gigantic magazine layout exhibiting large format pictures of models and actresses such as Kate Moss, Lady Gaga, Mick Jagger, Madonna, Brad Pitt, and just about any superstar you can think of. Testino’s work is both provocative and elegant, irreverent and glamorous, and most importantly provides an understanding of today’s aesthetic in fashion and photography. His images provide an inside look at some of today’s most elusive characters in the fashion, rock, and cinematic world. Known for his highly stylized work, Testino captures an array of different contextual moments whether it be private party snapshots, formal portraits, fashion nudes, or constructed interior sets.
