I was invited to Sanrio’s VIP party for the release of their latest book, “Hello Kitty, Hello Art!” so naturally I dropped anything and everything I was doing in order to attend the soiree at the Known Gallery located on the block (aka Fairfax)… the Sanrio gang, Hello Kitty Lolita’s, booze and art, oh my!!!
Hello Kitty, Hello Art! is a hardcover collectible book (9.5” x 11.5”) published by ABRAMS and features works of art inspired by Sanrio characters including the iconic Hello Kitty, as well as My Melody, Keroppi (oooooh, Keroppi was my shit back in the day!!!), Badtz-Maru, Little Twin Stars, and more. The book features over 200 color illustrations that infuse pop culture and street art, as well as a pull-out sheet of custom-designed tattoos… LOVE!!!
There were over thirty new paintings by graffiti artist POSE, custom chandeliers by Adam Wallacavage, a neon installation by RISK (fave!!!) and new works by 64 Colors, AIKO, Caia Koopman, DABS MYLA, Kenton Parker, Niagara, Shepard Fairey and Simone Legno… surely to the get all Sanrio fans and lovers of art pop excited in all the right places.
Wish I had more pictures from the event but I was too busy “ooooing, awwwing” and geeking out to take more… womp womp!!!
