When I was on my path of self discovery during my early 20′s, figuring out what the fuck I wanted to do with my life professionally, I totally wished I had a mentor or a fairy godmother — if you will — that could’ve helped to guide me and/or give me advise on the do’s and don’ts of the business BUT leave it to the cards that God dealt me and I was left to well… figure shit out on my own.
After many “learning through doing” experiences, I vowed to provide guidance and help others who were in my position at the time… young, hungry and eager to get their foot thru the door. So when I was approached by my friends at Creative Contraband to take part in an all female panel called Fashion Forward featuring myself, accessory designer Melody Ehsani and celebrity stylist April Roomet, and moderated by Paula Miranda for a new project they called, Behind The Hustle, a career development project geared toward young adults looking to find work in unique, mostly creative industries… I thought it was GENIUS!!! By this time, they had already conducted a few panels with other brands and entrepreneurs like, Dennis (Crooks & Castles), Nick (Diamond Supply), Mega (BLVCK SCVLE), and many other to name a few… so of course I could NOT pass this opportunity up.
The panel ended up being a hit with the girls and I providing past experiences (the good, the bad and oh yes… the ugly) working our way up in the industry, along with a fun Q&A with the audience at the end. It was such an incredible honor being with these incredibly talented and accomplished women… and I just LOVED seeing all the fresh faces in the audience. A lot of them reminded me of myself growing up and I’m just so thankful to have been a part of it.
That being said, in case you weren’t able to attend, the good folks at Behind The Hustle now have full coverage of the panel for you all to see, learn and hopefully be inspired by… Enjoy!!!
