Who you are and how are you living?
I’m Nikki Barber–20 years of age. Currently I live and breathe my band, The Static Trees, which consists of my boyfriend, Dylan, and myself. Our sound is a kind of bluesy rock, with a little pop mixed in for good measure. In June, we recorded our first studio EP in Nashville, TN and recently we also put out a music video for our new single, “Come On”. We currently live in a tiny space near Gettysburg, PA, but are soon packing up and heading to Nashville, TN.
What inspires your look?
Hands down, rock and roll has inspired my daily dressing habits. The genre has always been a bit disheveled and risky with an attitude…and that is what I feel a good outfit is all about. I’m also very inspired by my boyfriend. He wears top hats and suspenders on a daily basis…he dresses better than I do!
Describe your style for us:
It’s kind of like Patti Smith, Janis Joplin, and Francoise Hardy all got together and shared their clothing…I’m all over the map. The only constant thing for me is that I adore textures and prints so they’re usually the basis of my outfits.
What are some of your favorite brands?
I don’t really keep up with designers that much, but I think Chris Benz is absolutely wonderful. The colors…the details…everything he creates is so damn perfect. I also really love Alexander McQueen (just like everyone else), Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, Betsey Johnson, and Zadig&Voltaire.
If you could wear just one brand for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I could never be cornered like this! I find it rather boring when I see a person wearing a single designer head to toe, it’s not an original idea in my mind. That being said, if I had to choose, it would probably be Stella McCartney. Her designs are classy but fun, perfect for almost all occasions and ages.
What do you think of the current state of fashion?
We live in a really wonderful time, fashion-wise. No longer are there only one or two looks being paraded down the streets…the industry has become a kind of melting pot for originality and personality. I feel as if it’s becoming less about the designer and more about the person wearing it.
Any upcoming brands that you’re looking at?
I took some fashion classes at Academy of Art University, so I feel compelled to mention one of their recent graduate’s work that I fell in love with. Her name is Lauren Haut and she was featured in the school’s most recent NYFW show. Her line featured an array of playful prints and interesting silhouettes. I’m so excited to see where this girl goes!

A realistic daydreamer and put together oddball with senseless sensibility.
