JUST KIDDING! I don’t make interns run my errands, that’s rude. Jess, one of my magical merchandising elves, can testify to this fact — although she probably will tell you she spends hours and hours helping me label and describe our goods. She took a break from facebooking working hard (again, I kid!) to chat about why being a Karmaloop intern rocks. Catch our chat after the jump!
What’s your favorite thing about interning at Karmaloop?
Being surrounded by so much fashion is a definite plus. Handling the clothing and seeing what different designers are putting out is really exciting especially seeing how they evolve, what works and what doesn’t… Also, working with so many young, like minded people who have really unique sense of styles pushes my personal style. It’s nice to be pushed.
Describe your personal style.
My personal style eh? I think having such short hair has had a huge influence on my style. I like to overemphasize my feminity but don’t want to come off as being soft. So mixing really flowery or sparkly pieces with chunky boots or a leather jacket makes me feel most like me. Mixing vintage tried and true pieces with something really modern always gets me giddy, I love the idea of blurring the lines.
If you could meet anyone dead or alive who would it be?
Anyyyyone!? I’d have to say Jack Kerouac. I’m fascinated by what he did to American culture during an age when rebellion meant staying past your curfew. I’m obsessed with the Beat generation as a whole, but reading Kerouac I can feel his passion seething through his words- his restlessness and his awry ambitions. He really opened the doors for the rebellious youth of the ’60s and I’d love to talk more with the original hipster.
If we pressed shuffle on your iTunes, what would the first 3 songs be?
As my roommates can tell you when I get hooked on a song…I become obsessed! Currently these songs are burning holes in my eardrums…Led Zeppelin – When the Levee Breaks; Electrelane – Cut and Run; LCD Soundsystem – Dance Yourself Clean.
Favorite piece of clothing and why.
My favorite piece of clothing would have to be my brown leather boots. My ma bought these for me when I used to ride horses, but living in a city, I quickly adopted them for every day use. I’m picky about things like coats, bags and shoes because you use them every day so the fact that these babes are comfortable, stylish and mix well with everything in my wardrobe…helllloooo.
